Account Executive · AI Builder
Preston Lau
I build things for the betterment of Humanity.
Builder, athlete, husband, dad. Omaha raised, Utah based. Account Executive at Qualtrics, and a serial builder shipping AI products. Five years of enterprise CS receipts and founder aspirations.

About
I'm an Omaha native and former competitive swimmer who studied Political Science at BYU. I've spent the last five years at Qualtrics, growing from Enterprise Support Specialist to Account Executive in financial services and insurance.
I build AI products on the side, starting with SoulScribe (privacy-first journaling) and Vett (legal conflict screening with hierarchical RAG and ABA-compliant audit trails). At Qualtrics I run a Center of Excellence AI group for GTM and build agentic tooling, including an expansion opportunity builder adopted by 3K+ employees.
Outside of work I'm an endurance athlete. Marathons, triathlons, same mindset as shipping: show up consistently and figure out the rest along the way.

Work
Case studies: problem, what I built, and results.
AI / Legal Tech
Vett
Problem
Small and mid-size law firms spend hours on manual conflict checks: high-effort, error-prone work that scales poorly and creates compliance risk under ABA guidelines.
What I built
Designed and architected a RAG-based conflict-checking system with ABA-compliant audit trail generation, integrated as a compliance layer on top of legal practice management software. Ran customer discovery across 10 firms before winding down after validating the integration path.
Result
Prioritized evidence over sunk cost. Validated that conflict-checking workflows mirror CRM integration patterns, informing how I evaluate build vs. buy decisions as a founder.

SoulScribe
Problem
Spiritual and reflective journaling apps often compromise privacy or ship bloated UX. Users want a calm, private space without their inner life becoming ad inventory.
What I built
End-to-end product: React Native mobile app (Expo), Next.js web surface, Supabase backend, shadcn/ui components. Privacy-first architecture with lean scope, built to ship, not to pitch.
Result
Shipped to real users at soulscribe.info. Demonstrates full-stack execution from mobile to web with a modern TypeScript stack.

Internal AI / Enterprise
Qualtrics Internal AI Tooling
Problem
GTM teams across Services spent hours each week assembling account context manually. QBR prep, expansion research, and CRM updates pulled reps away from clients, while meeting notes, news signals, and account data lived in disconnected systems.
What I built
Internal AI tooling I built after founding the AI Center of Excellence within GTM. The flagship workflow is an AI-powered expansion opportunity builder on agentic frameworks. The QBR deck builder shown here is one example: LLM orchestration turns client data and templates into draft decks. The broader system uploads enriched account data into Salesforce and Gainsight, surfacing intelligence from meetings, news articles, and external signals so CS and Sales reps can tie insights back to qualified buyers and expansion opportunities.
Result
Adopted by 3K+ employees across all of Services, saving ~5 hours/user/week across the suite. Production workflows replaced manual prep and gave GTM teams a live view of account health tied to revenue motion.

Precision Running
Problem
Performance running gear for male runners with larger chests is underserved. Support apparel is marketed almost exclusively to women, leaving a real product gap.
What I built
Self-funded apparel brand concept: product design, e-commerce planning, and brand positioning for performance gear that breaks that stigma.
Result
Brand in development. Product design and go-to-market strategy underway; site launch planned.

Real Estate
PAL Capital
Problem
Building a cash-flow-focused rental portfolio requires disciplined underwriting and tenant operations, not just buying properties, but running them as a business.
What I built
Co-own and manage a residential rental property with structured underwriting, tenant relations, accounting, and long-term asset strategy.
Result
100% occupancy since launch while underwriting the next deal. Operator mindset applied outside tech.

Mistakes I've made
Broad lessons from building: themes, not highlight reels.
Customer discovery
I built before I validated
- Mistake
- Built Vett's RAG stack and audit trails before doing enough direct outreach to law firms.
- Lesson
- Momentum comes from outbound conversations, not more architecture.
From Vett
Product-market fit
I mistook a chat UI for a product
- Mistake
- SoulScribe's AI guidance fought the use case. A generic chat interface doesn't guide a spiritual journey.
- Lesson
- Format and behavior matter as much as stack; learn how users actually use the thing.
From SoulScribe
Distribution
Building is easier than getting users
- Mistake
- Shipped SoulScribe to real infrastructure but struggled to move from "interesting idea" to consistent usage.
- Lesson
- Shipping is step one; distribution and retention are the real product work.
From SoulScribe
Capital discipline
I underweighted cash flow math
- Mistake
- At PAL Capital, I focused on the appreciation story before the deal truly penciled on cash flow.
- Lesson
- Operator math beats narrative when you're underwriting real assets.
From PAL Capital
Demand validation
I assumed the gap was the hard part
- Mistake
- With Precision Running, the market gap was clear, but unproven whether men will buy support apparel at scale without a big budget.
- Lesson
- A real problem doesn't remove manufacturing, sizing, or purchase-intent validation.
